BACKHOE LOADER,
Information:
The wastegate control solenoid controls the air pressure to the wastegate. The wastegate contains a valve that controls the amount of exhaust gas that will bypass the turbocharger. This allows the ECM to control the turbocharger outlet pressure or boost pressure. The engine's ECM varies the current level to the wastegate control solenoid in order to maintain the desired boost pressure. For further information, refer to Service Manual, SENR5092, "Exhaust Bypass for 793, 793B, and 793C Off-Highway Trucks".

P2 ECM connector
(P2-63) "Wastegate solenoid (+)"
(P2-64) "Wastgate solenoid (−)" Test Step 1. Check for Connector Damage
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the ECM connector J2/P2. Inspect all of the other connectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the circuit.
Check the ECM connector (allen head screw) for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring are OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring need repair.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring.STOPTest Step 2. Check for an "Active" Diagnostic Code
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
Restore electrical power to the ECM.
Select the override for the wastegate on Cat ET.
Set the override for the wastegate to 100 percent.
Monitor the diagnostic codes on Cat ET. Check and record any diagnostic codes. Note: Wait at least 30 seconds in order for the diagnostic codes to become active.
Determine if the problem is active and related to one of the following diagnostic codes:

06Expected Result:No diagnostic codes are active.Results:
OK - No diagnostic code is active.Repair: The problem is no longer present. If the problem is intermittent, refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors".STOP
Not OK - A 06 diagnostic code is active at this time. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Not OK - A 05 diagnostic code is active at this time. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 3. Create an Open at the Connector for the Wastegate Solenoid
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the connector for the wastegate solenoid.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Proceed to the "Diagnostic Overrides" screen on Cat ET.
