and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the right steering cylinder, remove the sensor connector guard. Disconnect the harness connector from the sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
At the harness connector for the sensor, measure the voltage between the power supply contact 1 (wire K477-GN(Green)) and the return contact 2 (wire K478-YL(Yellow)). Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10.0 0.7 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is in the range of 10.0 0.7 VDC. The sensor power supply circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 1.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is not in the range of 10.0 0.7 VDC. The power supply circuit is not correct.Repair: There is a problem with the power supply circuit for the sensor.Refer to the MID 081, CID 1482 troubleshooting procedure in this section of the manual in order to troubleshoot the 10 VDC power supply.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE VOLTAGE OF THE SENSOR SIGNAL
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Connect the harness connector to the cylinder position sensor connector.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert the positive 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the signal contact 3 (wire E824-BR(Brown)). Leave the negative multimeter probe inserted along return contact 2 (wire K478-YL(Yellow)).
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the DC voltage between contact 3 and contact 2. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is in the range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is in the range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC. The sensor signal circuit voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The sensor signal circuit voltage measurement is above the normal range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC. The sensor signal circuit is not correct.Repair: The sensor signal circuit voltage is high. The high signal voltage could be caused by a sensor problem or could be caused by a short circuit condition. In order to determine if the sensor is causing the problem, use a removal tool to remove the signal wire (E824-BR(Brown)) and socket from the connector body at contact 3.Turn the key start switch to the ON position. With the negative multimeter probe inserted along the return circuit at connector contact 2, insert the positive probe through the back of the vacant hole at contact 3. Use the probe to contact the sensor connector pin in order to measure the voltage with the signal circuit disconnected. If the voltage of the sensor signal circuit is in the normal range, there is a problem in the sensor signal circuit. Before proceeding to the next test step, install the wire and socket that was removed back in the connector body. Ensure that the socket is securely locked in the connector body. Proceed to the next test step in order to check the circuit. If the voltage of the sensor signal circuit is above the normal range, the position sensor
