Remove the power train guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on the hose assemblies for installation purposes. Plug the hose assemblies. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container.

Note: The transmission oil pump is located on the torque converter case.
Disconnect hose assemblies (1) from transmission oil pump (2) .

Attach Tooling (A) to the transmission oil pump.
Use a suitable lifting sling and Tooling (A) to support transmission oil pump (2), as shown.
Remove bolts (3) .
Carefully remove transmission oil pump (2). The weight of the transmission oil pump is 41 kg (90 lb).

Remove nut (4) .

Use Tooling (B) to remove gear (5) from the tapered shaft of the transmission oil pump.

Remove gasket (6) .
