3412C (3JK) Marine EnginesNew software is available for 3408C and 3412C High Performance Marine Engines. This new software became effective with 3408C (8RG369) and 3412C (3JK875). The new software release date, which can be read using a Caterpillar electronic service tool, is NOV96 for C, D, and E ratings and FEB97 for the 3412C (1350 horsepower) Ehp rating. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) version 2.0 (or later) or Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) Service Program Module (SPM) NEXG4516, version 1.6 (or later) must be installed in order to support the new features.
The new software enables the Engine Vision System to display the following Trip totals: engine hours, idle hours, fuel, idle fuel, average load factor, and average fuel consumption. The Lifetime totals that can be displayed now include average load factor and average fuel consumption. In addition, histograms are now available to display percent of operating time versus rpm and percent of operating time versus percent load factor. Engine Vision software required to support these new features will be available in the third quarter.
Another new feature is the Low Battery Voltage diagnostic which will alert the operator when the battery voltage is below normal. If the battery voltage is below normal, a flash code of 17 will be sent to the diagnostic lamp and a diagnostic code of 168-01 will be logged in the ECM.
A new rating, 1350 horsepower, is now available for 3412C marine engines in non-revenue producing applications. Current 3412C 1200, 1250, and 1300 horsepower engines can be upgraded to the new 1350 horsepower, Ehp rating with the new software and some iron changes. The iron changes include a heat exchanger group, additional cover assemblies, and gaskets.
