Before operating the engine, the oil pump must be lubricated with clean engine oil. The oil pump must turn freely by hand. Damage to the drive gear and internal pump damage can occur if the oil pump is not lubricated with clean engine oil.

5 1 Oil pump drive gear In order to install the oil pump drive gear on the shaft, the oil pump drive gear must first be heated. Do not heat the oil pump drive gear above the temperature of 316 °C (600 °F).
