Revised Starting Procedure For Engines Using Kiene Valves
Use this procedure to prevent a possible "hydraulic lock" of engine cylinders.
1. Prior to starting the engine, open all Kiene Valves.2. Place the fuel ON/OFF switch in the "OFF" position.3. Turn the engine control switch from the "OFF/RESET" position to the "RUN" position. This will start the prelube pump.4. Once sufficient prelube pressure is indicated, momentarily turn the engine control switch to the "START" position. This is done to roll the engine over.5. Inspect all of the Kiene Valve outlets. If indications of fluids are present, record the cylinder number and report the findings to the maintenance supervisor prior to further engine operation. If there are no indications of fluids present, close and cap all Kiene Valves.6. Proceed with the normal starting procedure.
