CDL Code Description Notes
E1190-3 Low Aftertreatment Cooling Fan Speed : Level 3 The code is logged if the fan speed is not within 300 rpm of the commanded speed. Also, the code will be logged if communication for the CAN data link is lost between the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the fan.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Inspect the Fan
A. Inspect the fan for the following conditions:
Damaged fan blades
Debris against the fan blades
Air flow is obstructed
Cooling fan
Result: The fan is damaged.
Repair: Replace the fan.
Verify that the fault is resolved.
Result: The fan is obstructed.
Repair: Remove the obstruction.
Result: The fan is not damaged or obstructed.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check for Voltage at the Fan
A. Disconnect the two-pin connector to the fan.
B. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
C. Measure the voltage between pins 1 and 2 on the connector.
D. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Battery voltage
Result: The voltage is not equal to battery voltage.
Repair: The fault is in the wiring between the fan and the battery. Check the fuse between the fan and the battery. If necessary, repair the wiring.
Verify that the fault is resolved.
Result: The voltage is equal to battery voltage.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check for Continuity Between the Fan and the ECM
A. Make sure the keyswitch is in the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the four-pin connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect the P1 and P2 connectors from the engine ECM.
D. Check for continuity between pin 1 on the fan connector and P1:20 on the engine ECM connector.
E. Check for continuity between pin 3 on the fan connector and P2:29 on the engine ECM connector.
F. Check for continuity between pin 4 on the fan connector and P2:21 on the engine ECM connector.
Wiring continuity
Result: There is not continuity on all three wires.
Repair: Repair the wiring or replace the wiring.
Verify that the fault is resolved.
Result: There is continuity on all three wires.
Repair: Replace the aftertreatment cooling fan.
Verify that the fault is resolved.
If the fault is still present, contact the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
