On the rear engine of certain 627H Wheel Tractor-Scrapers water may enter the air cleaner box during heavy rain. Water may run down the outside of the air intake plenum. The water can then run under the air cleaner box cover and into the air cleaner box.If enough water enters the cleaner group, machine damage may occur.Solution

Air cleaner assemblyRemove the plenum and inspect the air filters to see if the air filters are wet.Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD1519, A New Air Cleaner Cap Group is Now Used on the Air Cleaner Group for the 627H Wheel Tractor Scrapers, to determine if your air cleaner cap group has been updated. It is highly recommended that your machine has the latest design 254-4293 Air Cleaner Cap Gp . This new design cap will prevent rain from entering the inside of the intake stack as air is drawn through.Rework Procedure

Create rubber rings by cutting along the inner and outer diameters of the MR 14/15 inner tube. The illustration shows the areas to cut along. Only one ring will be needed on each machine.

Air cleaner assembly
Remove the intake plenum from the scraper. Removal of the intake plenum may require the removal of the top hood and handrails. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR8882, "Hood - Remove and Install - Scraper".

Fit the cut-out rubber ring onto the bottom inside of the plenum as shown above. Once fitted, drill holes through both the rubber ring and plenum and attach together using rivets.

Once the rubber ring is secured to the plenum on all sides of the plenum, install the plenum back onto air cleaner. The rubber ring must generously hang over the top edge of the air cleaner cover, and the top of the cleaner assembly on all sides.
Once the parts are installed, the machine can be put back together and put back into service.
