3516 With Electronic Unit Injection (7KM, 3NS) Generator Set EnginesAfter flashing 3500B or 3500 with Electronic Unit Injection option Commercial engine Electronic Control Modules (ECM), verify that the Rated Fuel Position configuration parameter is correct. If a new service replacement ECM is flashed, the Rated Fuel Position configuration parameter defaults to a maximum value. This maximum value allows more fuel than required. Operating at a fuel setting greater than specified for the desired rating may damage the engine.
Determine the correct Rated Fuel Position value by looking up the value in GKN401, screen 06, in the TMI system. Once the correct value has been determined, this parameter can be programmed to the correct value. A factory password is required when programming the Rated Fuel Position parameter.
If the ECM is flashed to re-rate the engine, a new Rated Fuel Position configuration parameter value must be programmed. Again, determine the new Rated Fuel Position value by checking the GKN401, screen 06, in the TMI system. Obtain a factory password and then program the new Rated Fuel Position parameter into the ECM.
When an ECM is flashed to update to a more current version of software for the same engine rating, the Rated Fuel Position value remains at the previous setting. In this case, the Rated Fuel Position configuration parameter does not require re-programming.
This information regarding the Rated Fuel Position parameter does not apply to 3500 Machine Engines. For those engines, the Rated Fuel Position is an integral part of the software and is not programmable like 3500 Commercial Engines.
