You must always make certain the red plastic protective cover is closed whenever the battery is not in use. The cover is there to protect the contacts from damage and to guard against short circuit. The cover will click into a secure position when you push it closed.
You must always observe the correct handling, storage and disposal instructions when using NiCd batteries.* Do not incinerate the battery or dispose of it in a fire.* Charge the battery only in a Radix-approved charging unit.* Do not allow the contacts to become short circuited.* The battery pack contains cadmium. Follow the correct local regulations to arrange disposal or recycling.
To load a charged battery pack, open the rear panel of the FP40+ as described on page 13. Orient the battery as shown in Figure 7 and locate it into its slot beneath the paper compartment.Close the rear panel. Unloading the battery
To unload the battery, open the rear panel of the printer, grasp the battery and pull it out.Press the red plastic protective cover forward to cover the battery contacts.Battery charging
Radix dispatches the battery in a partly discharged condition. You must recharge it before use by following the procedure described below. The battery equipped with the FP40+ has sufficient capacity to power the printer throughout a normal working day and can be recharged overnight by using a charger manufactured by Radix.Take the following precautions to care for the battery:* Store the battery pack in a dry, dust-free environment that protects it from direct exposure to sunlight or extremes of temperature.* Always store the battery with its red plastic protective cover fully closed.* The connector cover does not protect the battery against moisture or other contaminants. Use some other form of additional protection if there is a risk of exposure to these hazards.* The battery has internal protection against short circuits that will stop it from operating for a short period if it detects such an abnormal condition. This is a damage protection feature only-you should always avoid exposing the battery to deliberate short circuit conditions. You may charge the battery either by removing it from the printer and using an FCX405 charger or by using an FC401DP charger to charge the battery while it is still fitted to the printer. Low battery
The FP40+ can detect when its battery is nearly exhausted. When this occurs, the printer will not longer print, although the communication link remains active so that software detection of the low battery condition by the host computer will work.Once the battery supply voltage has been detected as 'low' you must fit a charged battery pack immediately if you wish to continue printing. If is not sufficient merely to connect a battery charger to the charge port on the printer.FC401DP
The FC401DP charges the battery through the charging port on the printer and, when charging a battery of 100 mAh capacity, should take between 14 and 16 hours to provide a full charge. The LED on the FC401DP will be on continuously while the battery
