Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.
Mounting the Chain on the Feed Rollers

(1) Tool.Tighten the chains on the feed rollers while the feed rollers are on the harvester head.
Loosen the ring on the chain.
Loosen the chain from the rim gutter.
Put the link in the hook on tool (1). Push tool (1) downward until the chain is stretched tightly. Push the link into the gutter.Note: The chain must be stretched tightly so that the chain can not be lifted out of the gutter.Changing a Feed Roller
Remove the feed roller by removing the screws that hold the feed roller in place. Mount the feed roller so that the least worn side is turned toward the frame.

Flex-Drive WheelMount the Flex-Drive wheels. See Illustration 3.Mount the steel wheels so that the round side of the tips touch the tree first.Before a feed roller is mounted, ensure that the contact surfaces of both the feed roller and the hub are clean. Also inspect the threads, and oil the threads of the screws. After mounting the feed rollers, the screws should be tightened to the specified torque. Delimb a few trees and tighten the screws again. The screw torque should be checked weekly. Tighten the screws to a torque of 135 N m (100 lb ft) for the HH300 and HH500 Harvester Heads. Tighten the screws to a torque of 200 N m (150 lb ft) for the HH700 Harvester Head.Changing the Feed Roller Motor Units
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Use a lifting device to lift the feed roller motor off the feed roller arm. Remove the unit.Before a motor is mounted, ensure that the contact surfaces of the motor and the feed roller arms are clean. Fill the motor with oil. Clean the threads and oil the threads of the screws. Mount the motor. Tighten the screws to a torque of 135 N m (100 lb ft) for the HH300 and HH500 Harvester Heads.
