Install cage (38), four bolts (37) and the washers. By even amounts, tighten the bolts to a torque of 22.5 .5 N m (16.5 0.4 lb ft). Rotate gear (44) three times. Tighten the bolts again to 22.5 .5 N m (16.5 0.4 lb ft). Rotate the gear three times. Repeat this process until the bolts do not move on subsequent torquing.
Remove four bolts (37) with the washers. Install four bolts (37) without the washers. By even amounts, tighten the bolts to a torque of 6 1 N m (4.4 0.7 lb ft). Rotate the gear three times.
By even amounts, tighten four bolts (37) to a torque of 11.3 .5 N m (8.3 0.4 lb ft). Rotate the gear three times. Repeat this process until the bolts do not move on subsequent torquing.
Use a depth micrometer to measure the distance from cage (38) to bearing cage (43) at points (AA) and (BB). Record the average measurement and call this measurement (Y). Remove bolts (37) and cage (38) .
Use a micrometer to measure the thickness of cage (38) at point (AA) and (BB). Record the average measurement and call this measurement (X) .
Subtract dimension (X) from dimension (Y). Call this measurement (Z). This is the average gap.
Add 0.3 mm (0.0118 inch) to measurement (Z). This new dimension is the target for the shim pack thickness. This will give a cold bearing end play setting of 0.05 to 0.125 mm (0.002 to 0.005 inch).
Install cage (38), the shims, four bolts (37) and the washers.
