If the turbocharger fails during engine operation, severe damage to the engine can also result.For example, damage to the turbocharger compressor wheel could cause parts from the turbocharger compressor wheel to enter the engine cylinder. These parts from the compressor wheel can cause additional damage to the following engine components: pistons, intake valves, exhaust valves and cylinder head.Note: Turbocharger failure can cause large quantities of oil to enter the intake and exhaust systems. Loss of engine lubricant can result in serious engine damageIf no turbocharger bearing failure has occurred, minor leakage of a turbocharger housing during an extended period of operation at low idle will not cause problems.Do not continue to operate the engine when a turbocharger bearing failure is accompanied by a significant loss of engine performance. One of the following characteristics will be present with a loss of engine performance;
Engine smoke.
