Differential Pinion Depth

1. With the desired pinion depth shim (5) and bearing races installed in the differential carrier, install the bearing on the pinion and position the pinion in the carrier.2. Put the pinion ring, bearing and drive flange seal into the carrier.3. Install the drive yoke, washer and nut. Torque nut (3) to 320 N m (236 lb ft) or until a rolling torque of 2 to 3 N m (18 to 26 lb in) is obtained.4. Lock nut in place.Differential Backlash and Bearing Preload
The following procedure controls backlash and bearing preload. This procedure gives the same results for new and used bearings.1. Install bearings on differential halves.2.
