PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE STEERING SYSTEM PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE LINES ON CERTAIN 793F OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCK

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The hydraulic lines connecting a pressure reducing valve to the steering and fan pumps need to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing hydraulic lines are routed incorrectly and can lead to the generation of excessive heat within the hydraulic steering system. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 12Jan2012 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
As shown in Image 1.1.1, remove the tube assembly (A), hose assembly (B), and fitting elbow (C).

Remove the cartridge valve (D) from the valve assembly and replace the three (3) existing O-Rings with one new 238-5080 O-Ring, one (1) new 6V-5758 O-Ring with two (2) new 161-6161 Back-up Rings, and one new 113-6303 O-Ring with two (2) new 187-0541 Back-up Rings.
Re-install the cartridge valve into the valve assembly.
Install the 6V-8636 Adapter with a 214-7568 O-ring.
Install a new 228-7089 O-ring in the four locations shown in Image 1.2.1.

Install the 368-8110 Hose Assembly and 368-8111 Tube Assembly as shown in image 1.3.1. Adjust the orientation of fittings as needed.
