Introduction
This special instruction provides guidelines for use of Cat Coolant Conditioner for Aluminum Components (CCAC) for Aluminum Modular Core Radiators. This information is for all Caterpillar Machines listed above that utilize modular core aluminum radiators. Additional information for CCAC may be found in the following publication.Reference: , PELJ1330, "Cat® Coolant Conditioner for Aluminum Components for passivation of chemically reactive aluminum radiators"Dosing Guidelines
Aluminum Modular Radiator
Replacing an Aluminum Modular Radiator requires using one 15 mL bottle of 461-2417 Coolant Conditioner (B) per core (A) being replaced.

(A) Aluminum Modular Radiator Core
(B) 461-2417 Coolant Conditioner
(C) Coolant Tank
Remove the coolant fill cap and dispense the contents of the bottle into the cooling system (C). Immediate operation of the engine in order to circulate and mix the conditioner with the coolant is not necessary.
Operate the machine under normal conditions. The aluminum modular core will be passivated within 50 to 200 hours.Aluminum Dosing Overview
Note: This Special instruction applies only when an Organic Acid Technology (OAT) Extended Life Coolant that contains nitrites (for example, Cat ELC and Cat ELI) is used in aluminum modular core radiators. This special instruction does not apply to conventional coolants similar to Cat DEAC, nitrite-free Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolants, or cooling systems with copper radiatorsNitrites in the coolant help to protect against cylinder liner cavitation in diesel engines. A determination has been made that a compatibility issue exists between aluminum radiators and nitrite OAT coolants. New aluminum radiators require adding Cat Coolant Conditioner for Aluminum Components (CCAC) to the coolant to passivate the aluminum modular core. Passivation creates a coating preventing the nitrites in the coolant from reacting with aluminum in the radiator. Without passivation, the nitrite content in the coolant will deplete over time and decrease cavitation protection for cylinder liners.CCAC will completely react within 50 to 200 hours of operation. Cat Coolant Conditioner for Aluminum Components is available from your local Cat dealer.
