Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for testing and adjusting.Reference: Testing and Adjusting, "Preparation for Troubleshooting"
Ensure that the hydraulic oil in the system is at normal operating temperature. To warm the hydraulic oil, operate the feed rollers for several minutes.

Place the harvester head in the HORIZONTAL position. Close the delimbing knives and the holding arm. The feed roller will be in the OPEN position.
Place the harvester head 0.6 m (2 ft) above the ground.
Shut off the engine.
Place a piece of 1U-6605 Reflective Tape on the inside rim of the feed rollers.
Start the engine. Press the operating mode switch in order to activate the working mode (wheel harvesters). Turn the engine speed dial until the engine is operating at 1800 rpm. Make sure that the switch for the controller is in the ON position.
Press the button for the forward feed. Read the output on the 1U-6602 Photo-Tachometer for each feed roller. The maximum speed should be no more than 195 RPM. The minimum speed should be 193 RPM.
Press the button for reverse feed. Read the output on the 1U-6602 Photo-Tachometer for each feed roller.Note: The speed of the feed roller motors should be the same in either directions.
If the speed equals 195 RPM, shut off the machine engine.
If the speed is not 195 RPM, shut off the machine engine. Adjust the speed of the feed roller motors.

Leave the harvester head in the HORIZONTAL position with the delimbing knives and the holding arm closed. Open the cover. Disconnect the wire from the solenoid for TILT UP.

Main Valve
There is an adjusting screw on each end of the valve for the feed roller motors. The adjusting screws are for the forward direction and the reverse direction. Loosen the nut for the adjusting screw. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise in order to decrease the speed of the feed roller motors. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise in order to increase the speed of the feed roller motors.Note: There are two valve sections for the HH500 Harvester Head. One valve section
