preparatory step: a) remove final drive gear and idler pinion1. Remove the retaining lockring and pin from the sprocket shaft retaining nut (1).2. Using wrench (A), loosen the retaining nut (1) until there is approximately 1/8 in. (3 mm) clearance between the nut and the bevel gear case.
- Do not attempt to separate sprocket shaft from bevel gear case with the retaining nut (1) removed.
3. Install tool setup (B) and separate the sprocket shaft from taper in bevel gear case.4. Remove tool setup (B).5. Attach a hoist to the sprocket shaft. Remove the retaining nut (1) from threads of sprocket shaft. Slide the shaft out far enough to remove retaining nut.6. Remove the sprocket shaft - weight 200 lbs. (90 kg).Install Sprocket Shafts
1. Attach a hoist and slide the sprocket shaft into bevel gear case far enough to place the retaining nut on shaft.2. Push the sprocket shaft into the case as far as it will go by hand. Make sure the key (1) is positioned straight up.3. Remove the tape on threads of shaft, and install tool setup (B).4. Using tool setup (B) and a sledge hammer, drive the sprocket shaft into the bevel gear case while tightening retaining nut with wrench (A).5. Remove tool setup (B), and install the bearing cage holder assembly on the sprocket shaft.6. Measure the distance from the inner edge of holder assembly to the bottom of counterbore for inner bearing cup. This dimension should be 17.258 .062 in. (438,35 1,57 mm). Remove the bearing cage holder assembly.7. When the retaining nut is securely tightened, lock it in the following manner: In one of the notches in the retaining nut, drill a .368 in. diameter hole through the nut and .56 in. deep into the sprocket shaft. Place the lock pin in the hole, and install lock ring to hold pin in place.concluding step: a) install final drive gear and idler pinion
