980C (2XD, 63X) Wheel LoadersDescription of Change: The circuit breaker that was used in the Electronic Monitoring System power circuit has been discontinued. A fuse and in-line fuse holder are available as service replacement parts for the circuit breaker.Adaptable To: The 9G-2731 Fuse Holder and 8K-4644 Fuse service the 7N-8422 Circuit Breaker. If the circuit breaker needs to be replaced, follow this procedure: 1. Turn the key start switch OFF and open the battery disconnect switch.2. Remove the two wires from the circuit breaker.3. Cut off the ring terminals from the wires, and strip the wire insulation back 6.350 mm (.25 in) to 9.398 mm (.37 in).4. Insert the white/yellow wire in the load side of the fuseholder. The load side is identified by an arrow. Make sure that no bare wire is exposed, and crimp the wire.5. Insert the orange wire in the other end of the fuseholder and crimp the wire.6. Secure the fuse holder to the harness with a 3S-2093 Cable Strap. Tighten the strap by hand or use a 4C-5877 Cable Tie Tool. The cable tie tool tightens and cuts off the excess cable at the same time.7. Install the fuse in the fuseholder, close the disconnect switch, and turn the key switch ON to confirm that the Caterpillar Monitoring System powers up properly.
