Information:

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Note: Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual, "Cleanliness of Fuel System Components" for detailed information on the standards of cleanliness that must be observed during ALL work on the fuel system.
The extended service option (dual high efficiency fuel filters, dual oil filters, and large capacity oil pan) increases oil, oil filter, and fuel filter change intervals to approximately 1000 hours (from the standard 500-hour interval). This duration is not a guarantee, and actual performance may be better or worse depending on several variables. Variables such as air cleaner performance, fuel quality, oil quality, load factor, maintenance procedures, environment, all may affect service intervals. To attain the maximum service interval for a specific application, the customer must use approved engine oil and fuel per Cat guidelines. The customer must also useCat filters, and the Cat S O S sampling analysis system every 250 hours. Following the procedures in Special Publication, PEHJ0192, "Optimizing Oil Change Intervals" is also advisable.
Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing or repair is performed.
Turn the fuel supply valve (if equipped) to the OFF position before performing this maintenance.
Place a suitable container under the water separator Clean any spilled fuel. Clean the outside of the water separator.

Install a suitable tube onto connection (2) and open drain valve (1) and drain the filter. Allow the fluid to drain into the container. Remove the tube.
Illustration 2 g03352754
Typical example
Disconnect the electrical connector (8) and by hand remove connecting bowl (7). Remove the old O ring seal (6). Clean connecting bowl (7).
Use a suitable tool in order to remove the fuel filter (5).
Lubricate the O ring seal (4) with clean engine oil on the new filter. Install the new spin on fuel filter (5). Spin on the filter until the O ring seal contacts the filter base (3). The filter will require a ¾ of a full turn.
Install new O ring seal (6) onto connecting bowl (7). Lubricate the O ring seal (6) with clean engine oil and tighten the connecting bowl by hand. When the O ring seal contacts the filter, tighten the connecting bowl ¾ of a full turn.
Install the electrical connector (8). Remove the container and dispose of the fuel in accordance with local regulations. If necessary, turn the fuel supply valve to the ON position.
The secondary filter must be replaced at the same time as the primary filter. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".
