Procedures To Secure Cover
The following modification does not apply to excavators now coming off the assembly line. The rear header cover and how it is secured to the cab assembly have been redesigned to eliminate the excess movement of former designs. Removal Procedure
1. If the excavator is equipped with a 155-7045 Windshield Group, remove the 102-7688 Knob associated with the assembly prior to removing the rear header cover. See Illustration 1.

If the excavator is equipped with a 117-6263 Automatic Windshield Assembly, remove the 117-6306 Limit Switch and the 128-2116 Switch Bracket Assembly located just ahead of the rear header cover on the upper right side of the cab prior to removing the rear header cover. See Illustration 2.

This is the approximate position of the 128-2116 Switch Bracket Assembly (6) with the 117-6306 Limit Switch (5) just forward of the rear header cover (1). 4. Remove the four screws that run along the top of the cover which secure the cover to the cab assembly. For location of the four screws refer to Illustration 1.5. Lower the cover out of the cab.Modification Procedure
1. Clean the four nails (tabs) located on the lower rear portion of the rear header cover. See Illustrations 3 and 4.2. Cut two pieces of the 5P-2312 Seal to the contour of each nail. Approximate contour of each piece of seal is 20 x 10 mm (.79 x .39 in). Seal thickness should be 1.0 to 1.2 mm (.04 to .05 in).3. Use 5H2471 Cement to glue one piece of rubber to each side of each nail. 4. Let dry for approximately 15 minutes.

1. Install the cover by inserting the rubber covered nails into the four slots provided. 2. Hold the rear header cover as you insert the four screws and tighten slightly to prevent the rear header cover from dropping. Confirm that there is no excessive clearance between the nails and slots to allow movement. If movement occurs, remove the rear header cover and apply more rubber pieces as needed according to steps in the "Modification Procedure" section until excessive space between nail and slot is removed.3. Tighten the four screws of the rear header cover to a torque of 5 1 N m (3.7 .7 lb ft).4. Check for looseness. If flapping still occurs, repeat "Modification Procedure" until flapping is eliminated.5. Once the rear header cover is secured, install the 128-2116 Switch Bracket Assembly. Tighten the screw securing it to the cab assembly to a torque of 12 3 N m (8.8 2.2 lb ft).6. Replace 102-7688 Knob if it was removed.
