Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
False Speed Limited Due to High Tire Temperature (EID 691) event code may latch on certain Cat® products. If a truck is powered down with TKPH Speed Limiting, it may be speed limited when the truck is powered ON the next time. If High Front Tire Temperature (EID 689) and High Rear Tire Temperature (EID 690) event codes are not active, and Speed Limited Due to High Tire Temperature (EID 691) event code is active when the machine is powered ON, then event code EID 691 is a false event and needs to be cleared.Note: This issue does not require the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to be replaced. Refer to the "Solution" section to clear the event code.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim action, follow the below mentioned steps to clear the false latched event code:
Connect to the VIMS Application ECM in Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) and set the TKPH Activation and Deactivation values. Set the TKPH Activation and TKPH Deactivation thresholds for the Front and Rear Tire to a low value (for example, Machine Speed Limit Activation Front Tire Weight Speed Threshold - 10, Machine Speed Limit Deactivation Front Tire Weight Speed Threshold - 5 , Machine Speed Limit Activation Rear Tire Weight Speed Threshold - 10, Machine Speed Limit Deactivation Rear Tire Weight Speed Threshold - 5).
Operate the machine until the High Front Tire Temperature (EID 689) event and High Rear Tire Temperature (EID 690) event become active.
Wait 11-12 minutes for the software logic to truly activate the Speed Limit Due to High Tire Temperature (EID 691) event.
Set the TKPH Activation and TKPH Deactivation thresholds for the Front and Rear Tire to the original values (which are presumably above the current Front and Rear Tire TKPH values).
After 1-2 minutes a pop-up will appear on advisor to clear the event code EID 691 and speed limit will be removed.Note: Contact your Cat Technical Communicator (TC) for implementing this solution or for further support.
