Remove Right Front Camshaft Housing
preparatory step: a) remove valve cover1. Rotate the crankshaft to top center compression stroke No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 2. Disconnect outer fuel injection lines (1) from camshaft housing.3. On Marine engines only, drain engine coolant and remove water cooled exhaust manifold front water line.4. Remove the glow plug wiring harness (2). 5. Remove inner fuel injection lines (3). Install plugs on caps on exposed fuel lines and fittings.6. Remove bolts (5), lock and retainer. Loosen collar retaining clamps (4). Slide collars forward to separate the camshafts.7. Adjust all valve lash adjustment screws (6) for maximum valve clearance.8. Remove camshaft housing-to-cylinder head mounting bolts.9. Install two 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolts in camshaft housing. Attach a hoist, and remove the camshaft housing-weight 120 lbs. (54 kg).Install Right Front Camshaft Housing
1. Install both inlet and exhaust camshaft timing pins.2. Adjust all valve lash adjustment screws for maximum valve clearance.3. Check to be sure that crankshaft is at TC compression position No. 1 piston. The crankshaft will be in this position if: a. The timing pin can be inserted into slot in fuel injection pump camshaft as outlined in FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.b. The timing pin in the right rear inlet camshaft can be installed and the phasing gear timing marks are aligned.c. The timing pins can be installed in the left side camshafts.
If above procedure relating to valve lash, camshaft timing marks, timing pins, and crankshaft position is not followed, damage to the engine can result.
4. Attach a hoist, and position camshaft housing on engine. Install the camshaft housing mounting bolts. 5. Position the collars (1) to connect camshafts. Install retainer, lock and bolts.6. Remove protective caps (2). Install the inner fuel injection lines. Tighten fuel injection line retaining nuts to 30 5 lb. ft. (4,1 0,7 mkg).7. Install glow plug wiring harness.8. Connect the outer fuel injection lines to the camshaft housing. Tighten fuel injection line retaining nuts to 30 5 lb. ft. (4,1 0,7 mkg).9. On Marine engines only, install the right exhaust manifold front water line and fill the engine cooling system.concluding steps: a) adjust valve clearanceb) install valve cover
