Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

Open left engine enclosure (1).

Turn drain valve (5) counterclockwise to the open position. Drain the sediment into a suitable container. Close drain valve (5).
Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and harness assembly (3) from fuel filter base (4).
Use Tooling (A) and remove fuel filter (4) from fuel filter base (2).
Remove the bolts and fuel filter base (2). Installation Procedure

Install fuel filter base (2) and the bolts.
Install fuel filter (4) to fuel filter base (2). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
Connect harness assembly (3) and hose assemblies (1) on to fuel filter base (2).

Close left engine enclosure (1).
