Check the engine for a "L9" stamp to the rightof the engine serial number plate on the cylinder block to determine ifthis rework has already been done. If not, complete the procedure below.
Remove all 3 valve covers from the engine.
Remove 6 air bleed plugs, 2 per VVA, from theengine. This requires a T25 size Torx tool. (See Figure 1 for plug locations.)
Install 6 new plugs. Torque the plugs to 15+-3Nm.
Reinstall the 2 non-breather valve covers followingthe torque sequence in Disassembly and Assembly.
Install the new integral breather valve coverfollowing the torque sequence in Disassembly and Assembly.
Reinstall the fumes disposal tube and clamp tothe outlet of the breather.
Install the new valve cover decal to the top ofthe valve cover. When the procedure is complete, stamp the letters "L9"to the right of the engine serial number plate on the cylinder block tosignify that this rework has been completed.
