This Program must be administered either before or after failure.In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS42982" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code.If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM
The engines listed in the Affected Product were inadvertently shipped from the factory with a 12 volt purge air coil assembly for this 24 volt application. This will cause a 3490-6 code for aftertreatment#1 purge air actuator, current above normal, to log in the engine ECM.
Also, the purge air check valve, if applicable, may stick shut due to condensation in the system, which can cause 3711-31, 3473-31, and 3473-31 aftertreatment codes to be logged. The new check valve is made of stainless steel to eliminate the condensation issue.

ACTION REQUIRED
Before Failure Repair:
1. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician to the engine ECM and download a warranty report.
2. Perform rework below for Group 1 or Group 2 as applicable.
After Failure Repair:
1. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician to the engine ECM and download a warranty report.
2. Follow Troubleshooting procedures according to SIS web for active and logged diagnostic codes pertaining to the purge air system.
3. Verify the fault codes for the aftertreatment system that are in the ECM include those listed in the Problem Statement to confirm this failure and program applies.
- If the diagnostic codes in the ECM do not include diagnostic codes listed in the problem statement, this service letter does not apply. Continue troubleshooting the engine to repair the problem.
- If the diagnostic codes logged in the ECM do include diagnostic codes listed in the Problem Statement, perform rework for Group 1 or Group
