Downhill Operation
Before you start down a hill or grade, select the proper gear to maintain a proper ground speed. Select a speed that is slow enough for the grade and conditions. In most situations, the proper gear will be the same gear that is required to drive up the grade. The proper gear should allow the machine to maintain the appropriate speed without continuous use of the brakes. Use the right service brake pedal in order to slow the machine. The engine speed should be in the mid range or higher to maintain proper cooling and lubrication of the machine systems.Using either service brake pedal continuously to control travel speed of the machine on a grade can cause the brake discs and axle oil to overheat. This use of the service brake can result in significant wear and /or damage to the service brakes and final drives.Brake Heat Warning
This machine is equipped with a brake heat warning feature. This feature monitors brake usage and warns the operator if the heat build-up in the brakes is approaching damaging levels. The Information Display will provide the following messages and audible alarms based on pedal use and heat levels:

Heat Level Active Pedal Information Display Message/Alarm Explanation
High Left Brake, or Left Brake and Right Brake Service Brake temperature high. Reduce speed. Slowing the machine will reduce the necessary brake power, allowing brakes to cool. Brakes will cool faster while axle is rotating.
Very High Left Brake, or Left Brake and Right Brake Stop machine and set parking brake. Brake temperature is so high that damage to brakes is imminent, and stopping the machine is necessary.
