SAFETY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE SELF LEVELER VALVE
MODELS INVOLVED - 216B 3, 226B 3, 236B 3, 242B 3, 246C, 252B 3, 262C, AND 272C SKID STEER LOADERS; 247B 3, 257B 3, 277C, 287C, AND 297C MULTI TERRAIN LOADERS; AND 259B 3, 279C, 289C, AND 299C COMPACT TRACK LOADERS
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The self leveler valve needs to be reworked on the products listed below. The cap on the existing valve can crack and release oil, resulting in an uncommanded dump of the bucket. Such an event, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, may result in a risk of personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 08Mar2011 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Group Number 1
1. Raise the lift arms and install safety brace.
2. Unbolt the cab and raise.
3. Place an oil dry mat under the self leveler valve.
4. Use a 1-1/16" wrench, loosen the cap on the self leveler valve and remove the cap.

5. Inspect the port for debris.

6. Install the new 363-2188 Cap and 2M-9780 O-ring Seal. Turn the cap until the o-ring is seated and tighten the cap to a torque of 55 +5/-0 Nm.
7. If needed, touch up the paint on the cap.

8. Clean up any spilled hydraulic oil and check hydraulic fluid level. Add oil if needed.
9. Lower the cab and cycle the lift arms.
10. Raise the cab and inspect for leaks.
11. Lower the cab and bolt down. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 125 +/- 15 Nm.
Group Number 2
1. Open rear door.
2. Remove any components necessary to access the self leveler valve.
3. Place an oil dry mat under the self level valve.
4. Use a 1-1/16" wrench, loosen the cap on the self leveler valve and remove the cap.

5. Inspect the port for debris.

6. Install the new 363-2188 Cap and 2M-9780 O-ring Seal. Turn the cap until the o-ring is seated and tighten the cap to a torque of 55 +5/-0 Nm.
7. If needed, touch up the paint on the cap.

9. Replace components removed in Step 2.
10. Cycle the lift arms.
11. Inspect for leaks.
