Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prior to any adjustment, refer to the "Preparations" section in the Testing and Adjusting, "Operational Checks".Machine Preparation
Start the engine.
Position the machine on level ground.
Stop the engine.

Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge on pressure tap (1) .
Place the swing lock pin in the LOCK position.
Loosen the locknut of high pressure cutoff valve (4). Turn the setscrew by one turn clockwise.
Tighten the locknut.Test
Start the engine.
Lower the left console.
Adjust the engine speed to HIGH IDLE by turning the engine speed dial to position 10.
Slowly move the joystick to the full SWING LEFT position and the full SWING RIGHT position.
Check the pressure reading on the gauge at pressure tap (1). The pressure should be equal to the line relief valve pressure setting. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Specifications" in this manual for the proper specification.
If line relief valve (2) or (3) is not set to the proper specification, perform the following adjustment procedure.Adjust
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
Remove cap (5) and the spring from the line relief valve.
Remove the assembled valve from the pump.
Loosen lock screw (8) inside the spring clamp (6). Hold spring clamp (6) and turn stem (7) .Note: Turn stem (7) clockwise in order to increase the pressure and turn the stem counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure. A 1/4 turn of the stem will change the pressure by approximately 3000 kPa (435 psi).
