Introduction
An improved lubricated center pin with remote grease fittings are used in the floating equalizer bar group. The earlier tractors had a non lubricating center pin. The earlier center pin could fail due to wear and lack of lubrication. The new center pin with remote lubrication eliminates this problem.The earlier tractors can be reworked to the improved lubricating pin. The following procedures, charts and illustrations identify the step necessary to rework earlier tractors.Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Reference: Service Manual.Procedure To Rework Equalizer Bar Group On D4H Tractors
1. Remove the equalizer bar using the instruction in the Disassembly And Assembly of the powertrain for D4H Tractors, SENR3121.2. Remove the engine using the instructions given in the Disassembly and Assembly of the 3204 Vehicular Engine Supplement for D4H Tractors, SENR3229.
Location of bosses to be removed on rail and case assembly.3. Remove the bosses that are welded to the main frame saddle shown.
Enlarge bore diameter (A).4. Enlarge the existing equalizer bar center pin bores in the saddle to 93.0 mm (3.66") diameter (A). If an oxy-acetylene torch is being used, grind the bore diameter smooth.
Modification to 3W3035 Pin Assembly.5. Shorten the original 3W3035 Pin Assembly (14) as shown.* Remove section (B).* Deburr edge (C).* Once shortened, bottom tap the puller hole 27.0 mm (1.06") deep, with a 7/8"-14 threads. The original pin may be modified for use in the lubricated joint if it is NOT damaged.
Boss (15) dimensions.6. Fabricate two bosses (15) as shown.* Make the bosses from 50.0 mm (2.0") thick mild steel.* Make a 40 mm (1.6") radius at location (D), two places.* Make a 55 mm (2.2") radius at location (E), two places.* Drill 11.0 mm (.43") diameter holes, and tap 1/2"-13 threads at location (F), four places.
Welding and location dimensions for the bosses.7. Install one bearing sleeve (11) in each of fabricated bosses (15).8. Position the two bosses assemblies (15), from Step 7, in the channel and install the modified pin (14) or a new pin (12) in the bosses. See the illustration that precedes Step 7 for mounting locations.* Adjust bosses (15) so that the pin moves freely in the bore of the bosses. Tack weld the bosses in position.9. Weld bosses (15) in place as shown. Continue to check the pin-to-bore clearance while welding. See the illustration that precedes Step 7 for weld locations.* Make a 12 mm (.5") fillet weld all around at location (G), 2 places.* Make a 12 mm (.5") fillet weld from M to N at location (H).10. Install the equalizer bar assembly using the procedure given in the service manual. Lubricate the seals in the equalizer bar assembly with a light coat of engine oil.11. Install the equalizer bar center pin (14) or (12) into the equalizer bar assembly from the
