Adjust the retraction chains under the first boom section. Measurement (A) on each retraction chain should allow 30 mm (1.18 inch) of exposed thread between the outer face of the nut and the end of the thread on the shackle. Ensure that the chain shackles are not twisted and ensure that the chain shackles are lying in the box section of the boom.

Adjust the retraction chains under the second boom section. Measurement (B) on each retraction chain should allow 15 mm (.59 inch) of exposed thread between the outer face of the nut and the end of the thread on the shackle. Ensure that the chain shackles are not twisted and ensure that the chain shackles are lying in the box section of the boom.

Adjust nuts (1) for the extension chains on the first section. Measurement (C) should allow 90 mm (3.54 inch) of clearance between each extension chain and the boom section. Tighten the extension chains evenly. Alternate between the two chains until each chain reaches the desired adjustment.

Adjust nut (2) for the extension chain on the second section. Measurement (D) should allow 90 mm (3.54 inch) of clearance between the extension chain and the boom section.
Remove the stand and all tools. Start the engine.
Fully retract the boom and fully extend the boom.
Retract the boom 200 mm (7.87 inch).
Stop the engine and place a suitable stand under the boom.
Check the clearance between the extension chains and the boom sections. Each boom section should allow 90 mm (3.54 inch) of clearance between each extension chain and the boom section.Note: If the clearance is less than 90 mm (3.54 inch), tighten the relative extension chain in order to achieve the required adjustment.
Fully retract the boom and fully extend the boom.
Check the clearance between the extension chains and the boom sections. Each boom section should allow 90 mm (3.54 inch) of clearance between each extension chain and the boom section.
Repeat the adjustment procedure until a minimum clearance of 90 mm (3.54 inch) is consistently achieved at full boom extension.
Install the locknuts on all the chain shackles.Note: Threads on the shackle must be clean and dry and no thread lock should be used.
Ensure that all the chain shackles are not twisted within the box section of the boom before the machine is returned to service.Measure the Chains for Wear
There are four sets of chains on the TH580B, two extension chains and two retraction chains. The links in both extension chains and the links in the rear retraction chain have the same dimensions. Fully retract the boom. Position the boom horizontally.
