Caterpillar display panels used in Industrial/Commercial applications must be flashed using an Ethernet connection in order to reduce the time required to transfer the software files. This Special Instruction outlines how to flash Caterpillar displays used in Industrial/Commercial applications using Cat® ET and an Ethernet cable.Note: The display panel must be date coded 29May 2013 or after in order for this procedure to work. If the display panel is date coded before 29May 2013, do not perform any of the following procedure.Illustration 1 is an example of the date code used on the displays. The format used is in "MM/DD/YYYY" format.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the 419-5974 Adapter .
Connect the Ethernet cable to the computer Ethernet port.
Connect the 419-5974 Adapter to the 448-0532 Harness As .
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Remove the display from the housing so the rear of the display panel can be accessed.
Connect the 448-0532 Harness As to the 6-pin connector on the back of the display.Note: There are two 6-pin ports on the back of the display, each port is keyed differently. The 448-0532 Harness As will only connect to the correct port on the display.Flashing
Note: A Communications Adapter III does not need to be connected in order to flash the display.
After connecting the cables to the display as instructed above, open Cat® ET. Do not connect to an ECM, the communications method must be set up for the Ethernet connection.

Select "Utilities", then "Preferences", then "Modify" from the Cat® ET menu.
After the preferences screen has opened, Select the "Communications" tab.

Select "Ethernet Direct Connection".

Select "Intel(R) XXXXXLM Gigabit Network Connection" from the drop-down menu and select "OK".
Turn the keyswitch to the "ON" position.
Connect to Winflash.

Cat® ET will now connect using the Ethernet connection to the display.

In Winflash, select the folder tab, and browse to find the updated flash file.

Once the file has been selected, the system will prompt you to update the operating system on the display. Select "Yes".

Select "Begin Flash" to update the display software.

Once the flash has completed, the "Flash Completed Successfully" dialog box will be displayed.
Select Exit from the dialog box.
