Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing the fuel filters. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Note: During the warranty period, this procedure may be performed by Cat dealers only.
Open the engine door.

Move the fuel shutoff lever (1) to the horizontal OFF position.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" that pertains to containing fluid spillage.

Connect a suitable hose to connection (2) .
Loosen drain plug (3) and drain the water and sediment into a suitable container.
Close drain plug (3) and disconnect the hose.

Unscrew retainer ring (4) and remove the filter cartridge with water separator (5) .
Unscrew the used filter cartridge from the water separator
Mount a new filter cartridge to the water separator.
Inspect the O-ring seal of the filter cartridge for damage. Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary.
Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean diesel fuel or lubricate the O-ring seal with motor oil.
Install the new filter cartridge/water separator onto the mounting base. Turn the locking ring clockwise in order to fasten the filter cartridge/water separator to the mounting base by hand.Note: Do not start the engine until all service to the fuel system is complete. For instructions about priming the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
Move the fuel shutoff lever (1) into the vertical ON position.
Close the engine door.
