Schematic of the "Boom Down Control Pressure" Sensor
This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the voltage of the circuit for the "Boom Down Control Pressure" Sensor as being above normal. The signal circuit of the pressure sensor may be shorted to the +battery circuit. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit for the pressure sensor is open.
The signal circuit for the pressure sensor is shorted to the +battery circuit.
The pressure sensor has failed.
The power circuit or the ground circuit has failed.
The ECM has failed, but is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3012 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE "BOOM DOWN CONTROL PRESSURE" SENSOR
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the pressure sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
At the harness connector for the pressure sensor, measure the voltage from contact A to contact B. Use the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes. Expected Result:The voltage is the system voltage. Results:
OK - The voltage is system voltage. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is not system voltage. The + battery circuit in the machine harness has failed.Repair: Replace the machine harness or repair the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR PROPER GROUND AT THE "BOOM DOWN CONTROL PRESSURE" SENSOR
The machine harness remains connected to the pressure sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance from contact B to frame ground. Use the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe. Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The ground circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The ground circuit in the machine harness has failed.Repair: Replace the machine harness or repair the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS OF THE "BOOM DOWN CONTROL PRESSURE" SENSOR FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the pressure sensor.
At the harness connector for the pressure sensor, connect a jumper wire between contact 2 and contact 3.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Machine ECM.
At the connector J1 of the machine harness, measure the resistance between connector J1-17 (wire M844-OR(Orange)) and
