machines now use wiring harnesses with the new metal-shell "V-E" electrical connectors. The new "V-E" connectors can be distinguished from earlier "M-S" connectors by the fact that "V-E" connectors have bayonet-type lock rings. "M-S" connectors have screw-on lock rings that require several revolutions to tighten.
The female portion of the "V-E" connector includes a rectangular rubber gasket. The face of the male portion of the "V-E" connector is against this rubber gasket when the connector is assembled. This seals the connector against the entry of dirt and water. Compression of the rubber gasket provides tension which makes the bayonet lock ring snap into place, preventing the lock ring from vibrating loose during operation.
The rubber gasket in the female portion of the "V-E" connectors can become lost when the connector is disconnected. The 6T0543 Gasket [approximately 35 mm (1.4") OD] is available for 24 pin "V-E" connectors and the 3T3368 Gasket [approximately 50 mm (2.0") OD] is available for 32 pin "V-E" connectors.
