Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Park the machine in an area that is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.
Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL.
Engage the parking brake.
Stop the engine.Note: The machine may move during this test.

Loosen the set screw. Rotate needle valve (1) clockwise until the valve seats. Tighten the set screw.Note: Needle valve (1) is located in the engine compartment on the right side of the machine.
Start the engine. Operate the engine at 2250 rpm (high idle). Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool A. Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43° 5.6°C (110° 10°F).

Move selector (4) for engine speed to HIGH.
Move parking brake switch (3) to the RELEASE position.
Slowly, move propel lever (2) as far as possible in the forward direction. Slowly, move the propel lever as far as possible in the backward direction. If the machine moves in either direction, repair the brakes.
Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. Loosen the set screw. Rotate needle valve (1) counterclockwise until the valve stops. Tighten the set screw.
