Information:
The CAT Data link is a proprietary communication medium available on all Marine Engines. The connection is for communication with other microprocessor based devices such as the Electronic Control Module, GPS, EMS, or the Engine Vision Display. Improper wiring of the Cat Data Link System will result in a Data Loop that will cause the CAT Data Link system to function improperly. 1. Connect the STBD and Port J3 Customer Connect pin-7 (CAT Data LInk +) to the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip using a 143-5018 CAT Data Link wire. The Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip should be located as close as possible to the J3 Customer Connector to minimize the length of the data wire run.2. Connect the STBD and Port J3 Customer Connect pin-6 (CAT Data LInk -) to the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip using a 143-5018 CAT Data Link wire. The Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip should be located as close as possible to the J3 Customer Connector to minimize the length of the data wire run.
Figure 1.27 Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip Connections Avoid splicing or soldering wire connections. All wire connections mentioned and illustrated should be terminated at the terminal strips. This practice will ensure engine and system reliability.3. Connect the CAT Data Link - from the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip to the Bridge Data Bus Terminal Strip using a 143-5018 Cat Data Link wire.4. Connect the CAT Data Link + from the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip to the Bridge Data Bus Terminal Strip using a 143-5018 CAT Data Link wire. Avoid splicing or soldering wire connections. All wire connections mentioned and illustrated should be terminated at the terminal strips. This practice will ensure engine and system reliability
Figure 1.28 - Bridge Data Bus Terminal Strip Connection Proper wiring of the Cat Data Link System is essential for proper display operation. The CAT Data Link System should use the 143-5018 CAT Data Link wire. The installation should use a dedicated terminal strip for the CAT Data Link connections. This terminal strip should be located in a location that minimizes the length of the CAT Data Link data wire run. There should be only one set of twisted pair data wires that run to the bridge displays. If a second station is to utilize a Caterpillar display group, then the Data wires should be installed from the engine room terminal strip to the first station and continued from the first station to the second station.Data Loop
Improper wiring of the Cat Data Link System will result in a Data Loop that will cause the CAT Data Link system to function improperly.Optional Electronic Service Tool Connector
The Electronic Service Tool will operate with the engine running, or with the engine OFF, keyswitch ON.
