Remove & Install Sea Water Pump (GILKES)
Start By:a. remove expansion tank1. Remove the bolts and the vibration guard assembly. 2. Attach a strap and hoist to the sea water pump. The weight of the sea water pump for both 3408 and 3412 Marine Engine is 20 kg (45 lb).3. Remove nuts and washers (1) and remove the sea water pump. Inspect and replace the gasket if necessary. Start By:a. remove sea water pump 1. Remove two clamps (1).2. Remove manifold (2). 3. Remove two clamps (3). Separate the manifold. If necessary, remove plug (4).
If plug (4) is removed, be sure that the same plug is installed, the plug must be made from stainless steel.
4. Remove one bolt (5) and washer. 5. Install Tool (A) and remove gear (6). 6. Remove spanner nut (7) with Tool (C). 7. Remove retainer (8). 8. Remove three bolts (9) and washers.9. Remove bearing housing (10). 10. Use a press to remove bearing assembly (11) and oil seal (12). 11. Remove clamp (13). Remove half body (14). Remove all gaskets on mating surfaces and replace as necessary. 12. Remove ceramic seal (15) from half body (14). 13. Remove O-ring seal (16).14. Remove shaft seal (17).15. Remove port plate (18). Two port plate pegs marked (X)
When removing the port plates mark or identify so the plates can be assembled in the same position relative to each other and to the impeller housing or the half body. The positioning of the plates is critical to the proper flow of the water through the pump and could cause damage if not properly assembled.
