Remove the axle trunnions if you are servicing the brakes for the rear axle.
Remove the fixed axle if you are servicing the brakes for the front axle.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Position axle housing assembly (1) and housing (2) as a unit onto Tooling (A). The weight of axle housing assembly (1) and housing (2) as a unit is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb).
Attach a suitable lifting device onto axle housing assembly (1). Remove bolts (3). Remove axle housing assembly (1). The weight of axle housing assembly (1) is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).

Remove gear (4), plate (5), and springs (6).

Remove disc (7) and piston (8).

Remove seals (9) and (10). Installation Procedure

Lubricate seals (9) and (10) with the lubricant that is being sealed. Make sure that the grooves for seals (9) and (10) are free of any particles. Install seals (9) and (10) into the axle housing.

Make sure that seals (9) and (10) that were previously installed are positioned correctly. Install piston (8) into the axle housing evenly. Immerse disc (7) in clean oil that is being sealed. Install disc (7).

Install springs (6), plate (5), and gear (4).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Apply Tooling (B) to the mating surface of axle housing assembly (1). Attach a suitable lifting device onto axle housing assembly (1). Position axle housing assembly (1) onto housing (2). The weight of axle housing assembly (1) is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).
Install bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 300 40 N m (221 30 lb ft).
Remove axle housing assembly (1) and housing (2) as a unit from Tooling (A). The weight of axle housing assembly (1) and housing (2) as a unit is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb). End By:
Install the fixed axle.
Install the axle trunnions.
