Illustration 2 g01036092The main components of the torque converter scavenge pump are: oil pump cover (1), oil pump body assembly (2), oil pump manifold assembly (3), oil pump drive gear (4) and oil pump gear assembly (5).Oil pump gear assembly (5) is connected by splines to the pump drive gear in the torque converter updrive.Leakage oil from the flywheel housing, torque converter and lubricating oil for the gears and bearings in the updrive housing flows to the base of the updrive housing. This oil is removed by the torque converter scavenge pump. The oil is returned to the transmission oil reservoir in the base of the output transfer gear case. In operation, oil flows from the bottom of the updrive housing. The oil is drawn through a suction screen to the inlet port in oil pump manifold assembly (3). The oil flows to the lower part of the oil pump body assembly (2). The oil is trapped between the gear teeth and the pump housing. As the gears turn, oil is pushed from oil pump body assembly (2). The oil flows through the outlet port in oil pump manifold assembly (3) to an oil line. The oil then flows to the transmission case.
