Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that the fluids are contained during performance of the inspection, the maintenance, the testing, the adjusting and the repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling of the any components containing fluids. Refer to the "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for the tools and the supplies suitable to collect and contain any of the fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of the fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Open the hood assembly, and lock it in the "Open" position. 2. Disconnect two hose assemblies (4) and (5). Cap or plug hoses immediately to prevent contamination of the fuel system.3. Remove two bolts (1) and the washers. Check bracket for cracks and stripped threads.4. Remove fuel filter (3) and fuel filter base (2) as a unit. Check base for cracks and stripped threads. Place a drain pan the fuel filter and the fuel filter base upright until the fuel can be drained into a suitable container. For the installation of the fuel filter and fuel filter base, reverse the removal steps.5. If the fuel filter is removed, apply engine oil to the gasket before installing. Check the element assembly for clogging and tears. Use Tool (A) if necessary to remove or install the fuel filter.Disassemble & Assemble Fuel Filter Base
Start By:a. remove fuel filter and fuel filter base 1. Position the fuel filter and the fuel filter base on a suitable work bench.2. Use Tool (A) if necessary to remove fuel filter (4) from filter base (2). Check the fuel filter element assembly for clogging and tears.3. Remove three fittings (1). Check the gaskets for wear or damage. Replace the gaskets if necessary. For assembly of the fuel filter base, reverse the disassembly steps.4. Check gasket (3) for wear or damage. If necessary replace fuel filter (4). Use new parts for replacements. Apply engine oil to gasket (3) when installing the fuel filter.End By:a. install fuel filter and fuel filter base
