(2) Pilot filter Pilot filter (2) is located on pilot manifold (1). The pilot filter removes any debris that may cause damage to hydraulic components.Pilot oil flows through the filter base into the filter housing. The oil fills the space between the inside of the filter housing and the filter element. Then, oil flows through the filter element and back to the filter base. The filter element stops any debris that is in the oil.If the filter element fills with debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase. The increase in pressure causes a bypass valve to open. Unfiltered oil is allowed to flow into the pilot supply line. Unfiltered oil can cause damage to components in the hydraulic system.Correct maintenance procedures must be followed in order to ensure that the filter element does not become full of debris which will stop the flow of clean oil to the pilot hydraulic system.
