Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Typical example
Check the condition of O-ring seal (3) on fuel injection pump (1). If the seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
Lightly lubricate O-ring seal (3) with clean engine oil. Install O-ring seal (3) on fuel injection pump (1) .
The No. 1 cylinder must be at the top center position on the compression stroke before the fuel injection pump is installed. If the crankshaft needs to be rotated, the fuel injection pump must be mounted temporarily or the loose gear could cause damage to the front housing.

Install fuel injection pump (1) on the front housing. Loosely tighten the flange nuts (2) .
Install the drive gear on the drive shaft for the fuel injection pump. Align the pin that is in the drive shaft with the keyway on the gear. Install the lockwasher and the nut. Do not tighten the nut.
Tighten the flange nuts (2) to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb ft).
Tighten the nut for the drive gear to a torque of 80 N m (60 lb ft).
Install the throttle linkage. Install the electrical connection for the fuel shutoff solenoid.End By:
Install the fuel injection lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines - Remove and Install".
Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Install".
Install the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Cover - Install".
