Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

Remove bolts (1) from tube assembly (2) and tube assembly (3) .
Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the aftercooler. Inspect the O-ring seal.

Remove brackets (5) from base (4) .

Remove bolts (6) from bracket (7) and base (4) .
Disconnect tube assemblies (8) .

Remove bolts (9) from base (4) and aftercooler housing (10) .

Disconnect harness assemblies (11) and (12) .

Remove clamp (13) and tube assembly (3) from auxiliary water pump (14) . Inspect the O-ring seal.

Remove bolts (15) and the plates.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler housing (10) . The weight of aftercooler housing (10) and the aftercooler core is approximately 68 kg (150 lb).
Remove bolts (17) . Remove aftercooler housing (10) and the aftercooler core as an assembly.

Remove bolts (18) from bonnet (19) .
Remove bonnet (19) .

Remove aftercooler core (20) from the aftercooler housing. Inspect O-ring seals (21) . Replace the aftercooler gaskets.

Attach a suitable lifting device to base (4) .
Remove bolts (22) and base (4) . Inspect the O-ring seals.
