The use of these high efficiency fuel filters will help provide maximum life for the fuel system components in Caterpillar commercial engines (except the 3600 Family Of Engines). The standard fuel filters will remove particles 15 microns in diameter and larger from the fuel. The high efficiency fuel filters will remove particles 2 microns in diameter and larger from the fuel. The use of the high efficiency filters will result in the quicker removal of more debris from the engines fuel system. This will result in less wear on the extremely tight tolerance fuel system components such as fuel injection pumps and fuel injection nozzles.

Prefilling fuel filters can result in unfiltered fuel on the clean side of the filter media. Unfiltered fuel can damage fuel injection pumps and fuel injectors.
