Rest a straight edge against the support plate. Use a ruler that will reach the top of the support plate to measure the maximum deflection. Refer to Figure 8.
Position the ruler so that the top rests against the support plate.
Measure the open gap at the bottom of the support plate.
If this distance is greater than 5 mm (0.20 inch), the support plate is out of the design specification. Proceed to the rework.Rework Procedure

Fabricate two gussets according to the dimensions in Figure 9 and Figure 10. Use ASTM specification 572 Grade 50 steel plate that is 10 mm (0.39 inch) or 12 mm (0.47 inch)

(1) Support plate for the motor

Bend the support plate for the motor (1) so that the plate is at a 90° angle to the bottom plate. Refer to Figure 11. If possible, use a press and fixture like what is shown to straighten the plate. Use blocks to brace the roller frame so that the roller frame is fully supported on the press. Cables can also be used to secure the frame but position the hooks at reinforced areas to prevent unwanted bending at those locations. Use a load block that spans across the width of the tower sheet to spread the force of the press evenly. Refer to Figure 12. Commonly, much of the bending occurs at the upper motor support section.Note: Exercise caution when you bend the plate for the motor into position. Excessive force at a localized spot on the support plate may cause uneven bending of the plate. This action may move the holes for motor mounting out of alignment. Using the hystat motor as a torque arm may result in internal damage to the motor.

Proper position of the gussets
Position new gussets on top of the current gussets and tack weld into place. Refer to Figure 13 for the proper positions.
