5. Remove bolt (4), the retainer, O-ring seal and yoke assembly (3) from the pinion shaft. 6. Remove bolt (5). Remove retainer (6). Remove the seal from the retainer. Check the condition of the seal. If the seal has damage, use a new part for replacement. Remove the lip type seal from the retainer. 7. Remove nut (7), lock (8) and washer (9) from the pinion shaft.8. Put the housing on wood blocks as shown. 9. Remove the pinion shaft from the housing with tooling (B).10. Fasten a hoist to the housing and remove it from over the pinion shaft.11. Remove the bearing cone and two bearing cups from the housing. 12. Remove bearing cone (11) from the pinion shaft with tooling (C) and a spacer (10) 2 in. (51 mm) long and approximately the same diameter as the pinion shaft. 13. Turn the differential around and fasten it to tooling (A) as shown.14. Remove lockwire (12). Put identification on bearing caps (14) before they are removed.15. Remove locks from adjusting rings (13). Remove the bolts that hold bearing caps (14) in position. Remove bearing caps (14). 16. Slide a piece of pipe through the differential as shown and fasten a hoist to it. Remove differential (15) from the carrier assembly. Weight of the differential is 370 lb (168 kg). 17. Remove bearing cones (16) from each side of the differential with tooling (D).18. Remove bolts (17). Make a mark across housing (18) and the case assembly for the correct alignment of the parts at installation. Remove housing (18).19. Remove the washer and gear from under housing (18).20. Remove spider and pinions from case assembly. 21. Remove gear (19) and the washer from the case assembly. 22. Remove washer (23), pinions (22) and bearings (21) from spider (20). Later machines use a four pinion spider. 23. Remove bolts (24) that hold the case assembly to the gear. 24. Install two 3/4 " - 10 NC forged eyebolts and nuts in case assembly (25). Fasten a hoist to the case assembly and remove it from gear (26). Weight of the case assembly is 130 lb (50 kg). Weight of gear (26) is 93 lb (42 kg).Assemble Differential And Bevel Gear
1. Install two bearing cups (3) in housing (4).2. Heat the inner bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install it on pinion shaft (2). Make sure the inner bearing cone is against the shoulder on the shaft.3. Put housing (4) in position over pinion shaft (2) as shown.4. Heat outer bearing cone (1) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install it on the pinion shaft. 5. Install washer (7), lock (6) and nut (5).6. Put the housing on wood blocks. Fasten tooling (C) to the housing and make sure the indicator [part of tooling (C)] is in contact with the end of the pinion shaft. Tighten nut (5) with tool (D) until the end play of the pinion shaft is approximately .012 in. (0.30
