1-8 NC 1 Note: This procedure is intended for lowering the hinged bottom guards. The complete removal of the hinged bottom guards must be done with the use of a suitable floor jack. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard - Remove" for the procedure to remove the hinged bottom guards. Fully read this procedure and fully understand this procedure before proceeding with the work.Note: Use caution around potential pinch points. Be alert for possible movement of the guards.Note: Do not place any part of your body under the bottom guard unless the mounting nuts are installed. Make sure that the suitable restraining devices are tight before the mounting nuts are loosened.Note: Inspect the suitable lifting device and all suitable restraining devices prior to installation for proper condition and proper operation.Note: When the suitable restraining device is secured to the machine, ensure that there is no interference that is caused by dirt or debris that could cause the inadvertent movement of the bottom guard as weight is applied.
Illustration 1 g02044415Note: Refer to the arrows in Illustration 1 for the approximate location for attaching the suitable restraining devices and lifting devices to the machine. The suitable restraining devices and the lifting devices must be centered in the fore and aft direction on the bottom guards.Note: Ensure that all hinge pins, cotter pins, and washers are in place in the bottom guard. Do not remove any of these parts. Inspect both halves of the hinges. Make sure that both halves of the hinges are properly attached to the bottom guard and the tractor frame. If any cracks are observed on the hinges or the hinge welds do not use this procedure but instead use the procedure for complete removal of the bottom guard.Note: Refer to Table 2 below for the weights of each of the bottom guards. Bottom guards may contain a significant amount of rock, dirt, liquids and debris, which will result in significant additional weight.

Typical Example
Attach the suitable restraining device (1) to the side of the machine on the hinged side of the bottom guard. Attach Tooling (A) or a suitable lifting device to the other side of the machine. Acceptable locations include the track or the bulldozer push arm. An external hoist is an acceptable alternative to Tooling (A) but care must be taken in order to avoid fouling the hook on a corner of the tractor. Attach the suitable restraining device (1) onto Tooling (A) and pull tightly in order to firmly secure the bottom guard (2) into the correct position.

Typical Example
Loosen nuts (3) that secure bottom guard (2) to tractor frame (4). Do not remove nuts (3). Maintain at least one half of the
