Installation Procedure
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.Note: The HH65 Harvester Head is shown in this procedure. Other harvester heads are similar.

Install lower bushing (13) and upper bushing (14) inside delimbing knife (15) .
Place bearing (12) on the post on the harvester head frame.
Install delimbing knife (15) .
Repeat step 1 through step 3 for the opposite delimbing knife.

If equipped, install lever (11) on the encoder. Install screw (10) that attaches the lever to the encoder.
Illustration 3 g00637012
Install the clamp on the bottom of the delimbing knife. Install four screws (9). Tighten set screw (8) on the clamp.
Place cover (7) in position. Install the four bolts that retain the cover.
Repeat steps 5 through 7 for the opposite delimbing knife.Note: The HH45 and HH55 Harvester Heads do not have a diameter sensor on the right side delimbing knife.
Illustration 4 g00636895
Install stationary delimbing knife (6) .
Install two caps (5). Measure the gap between the stationary delimbing knife and each cap. The gap should be 1.27 mm (0.050 inch). If the gap is less than 1.27 mm (0.050 inch), add shims under the cap. A gap that is greater than 1.27 mm (0.050 inch) is acceptable.
Install two bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 800 N m (590 lb ft).
Illustration 5 g00636878
Place the delimbing knife cylinder in position. Install pivot pin (3), the washer, and the locknut. Tighten the locknut to a torque of 240 N m (177 lb ft).
Repeat step 12 for the opposite delimbing knife.
Lower valve plate (2). Install two bolts (1) .
Lubricate delimbing knives (10) and the cylinder pivot pins through the provided fittings. Use 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease .
