Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "System Pressure - Release".Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Lower the boom in order to allow the feller buncher head to rest on the ground.
Drain the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for proper storage or disposal.

Disconnect hose assemblies (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5) from the swing motor. Position the hoses out of the way.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to swing motor (6) .

Disconnect hose assembly (10).
Remove bolts (9) and move bracket (8) aside. Move harness assembly (7) aside. Remove mounting bolts (12) and remove the swing drive (11). The weight of the swing drive with the swing motor is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb).Note: The swing drive and the swing drive motor will be removed as a unit.

Place an alignment mark on swing motor (6) and the swing drive (11) prior to separation. Remove bolts (13). Use Tooling (A) in order to separate swing motor (6) from swing drive (11). The weight of swing motor (6) is approximately 80 kg (177 lb). The weight of swing drive (11) is approximately 509 kg (1123 lb).
